Resilience and unwavering passion defined her character. As the daughter of a wealthy merchant, she enjoyed a privileged upbringing and delighted in handcrafted goods; she loved gifting her own handmade scented candles to those in need and was deeply committed to philanthropy. Yet, when her family faced financial hardship and her carefree life came to an end, her love for craftsmanship and her dedication to charitable causes remained unchanged. She would design her own scented candles, saving every penny until she could afford the materials she desired.

Part II

Sometimes, she would offer her friends and family blessings through exquisite, self-designed scented candles—each the result of days and nights of meticulous craftsmanship. At other times, she would light her creations to mark a lovely weekend, with every candle possessing its own unique fragrance; on certain occasions, she would use these handmade pieces to convey her sentiments, letting them speak where words were unnecessary.

Through my grandmother’s passion for these handmade creations, I not only came to understand her better but also developed a profound appreciation for this art form. Scented candles possess a soul; in my grandmother’s collection, I could almost hear the echoes of her free spirit, her pride, and even the quietude of her moments of deep contemplation.
